
Camden County Police Department officers, including Chief Gabriel Rodriguez, and the family of the late Officer Matthew Sviben donated $5,200 they raised during “No Shave November” toward cancer research during a short outdoor check presentation ceremony.
The Camden County Police Department and FOP Lodge 218 are donating $5,200 raised by officers during “No Shave November” to The Cooper Foundation, to support colon cancer research at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.
Approximately 230 Camden County Police Department officers grew out their moustaches, beards and sideburns during the annual event that started in 2021 during November, with each donating $30 ($1 a day for the month of November) to be able to forgo shaving. The Camden County Police Department has participated in this tradition since 2021 in honor of Officer Matthew Sviben who died in September 2021 after being diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer in January 2020, just days after he graduated from the police academy and joined the Camden County Police Department.
The total of $5,200 raised by Camden County Police officers and the Sviben family donated by the FOP and the department to MD Anderson specifically for colon cancer research.
